Introduction: injuries cause by an expansive wave generally affect several body systems due to violent liberation of energy which can propel columns of air as well as particles of different materials which can damage internal structures of the exposed human body. Clinical case: 40 year old male patient, referred from the Hospital de Apoyo Cora Copra to Hospital Regional de Ica, who underwent penetrating abdominal trauma by stone fragments after an explosion of dynamite in an illegal mine where he worked. Deicussion: severity of penetrating abdominal trauma depends on the explosive material it has been exposed to, the environment and the materials ejected due to the expansive wave. Conclusions: injurias caused by penetrating abdominal trauma due to stone fragments ejected by the expansive wave can present with hollow and solid viscus injuries which require prompt treatment.
