Abstract

Hemobilia as a cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGH) is poorly documented in the medical literature; however, it´s the cause of significant bleeding that is mostly associated with bile duct pathologies. The causes of hemobilia are mostly due to traumatic origins (after surgeries and/or invasive procedures); however, cases of spontaneous bleeding have been described in relation to cholecystovascular fistulae, being the cystic artery the most frequently involved. We report the case of an 88-year-old patient who presented with UGIB associated with hemobilia in the context of Mirizzi’s syndrome that causes a cholecystoarterial fistula.
