Keywords:
Ogilvie syndrome, intestinal pseudoobstruction, cecostomyAbstract
Ogilvie’s syndrome is an intestinal pseudo-obstruction characterized by symptoms and signs of intestinal obstruction with no mechanical cause. We report the case of a 94-year-old patient with symptoms of diffuse crampy abdominal pain associated with nausea, vomiting and constipation. On physical examination, a prostrate woman is observed, with the presence of abdominal and tympanic distension, and the absence of bowel sounds. Laboratory tests and images are carried out, the abdominal X-ray reveals colonic dilation. Medical treatment was established but in view of no clinical improvement, a decompressive cecostomy was performed. The patient remained in the hospital for 3 weeks and was discharged without complications.
