Objective: To determine the incidence of acute appendicitis and associated factors in soldiers of two military bases. Materials and methods: A comparative, retrospective, cross-sectional, analytical study carried out in two troop bases of the Central Military Hospital of Lima-Peru. Medical records of three consecutive years were reviewed, as well as surgical and anatomopathological records. Results: In Pichari, 55 patients were reviewed, finding an average annual incidence in the three years of 7 cases x 100 people year, while in Lima, 37 patients were reviewed, finding an average annual incidence of 5 cases x 100 people year. In the bivariate analysis, a statistically significant association was found between the presentation of appendicitis and fluid intake (p=0.012), carbohydrate intake (p = 0.028), fruit intake (p = 0.023), physical exertion (p = 0.042) and two factors that also influenced were the enviromental temperature (p <0.01) and atmospheric humidity (p <0.01). Conclusions: A higher incidence of acute appendicitis was found in the Pichari battalion associated with environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, as well as dietary factors and physical effort.
