Early upper gastrointestinal bleeding is one of the most frequent complications associated to laparoscopic gastric bypass. We report on our incidence of early upper gastrointestinal bleeding after laparoscopic gastric bypass, asses the clinical presentation and describe its management. This is a retrospective and descriptive study of patients who developed early upper gastrointestinal bleeding after laparoscopic gastric bypass between December 2015 and August 2018. During this period 258 laparoscopic bypasses were performed, 5 (1.9%) of which developed early upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Early upper gastrointestinal bleeding after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a complication which presents with variable characteristics. Manual gastroenteroanastomosis with resorbable material and oversuture of the stapling lines in our experience considerably reduces the risk of bleeding.
