Malacoplaquia y Adenocarcinoma de Colon
Keywords:
Malakoplakia, ascending colon, colorectal carcinomaAbstract
Malakoplakia is a rare, chronic, granulomatous inflammatory disease, usually associated to immunosuppression caused by organ transplantation, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, malignancy, diabetes mellitus, or prolonged corticosteroid therapy. It affects the genitourinary tract and, at least on clinical and macroscopic grounds, may occasionally simulate malignancy. However, other organs and systems can also be involved. In the gastrointestinal tract, it is usually associated to other concomitant diseases such as ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease, adenomatous polyps and carcinoma. The association of malakoplakia and adenocarcinoma of the colon and rectum is a rare event, with no more than 20 cases reported in the international literature. We report a 74 year old male patient who was treated for an ascending colon lesion. At operation, the right ureter was embedded within an inflammatory pericolic mass but was not grossly involved with tumor. The tumor was a IIIA clinical stage of ascending colon.
