Abstract

Wilkie’s Syndrome or superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a rare cause of upper intestinal obstruction, which is caused by extrinsic compression of the duodenum by the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery (SMA).

We report the case of a 34 year old female patient who presented with postprandial abdominal pain and weight loss during 5 years ending up with a BMI of 14.8 kg/m2. CT scan showed compression of the duodenum between the superior mesenteric artery and the aorta. She underwent a duodeno-jejunal anastomosis with an uneventful recovery.

This unusual entity should be considered in the differential diagnosis of upper intestinal occlussion.
