Abstract

Background: Physicians are part of the first line of defense against COVID-19. Adequate knowledge about this disease is essential for good practice and self-care capacity. Objectives: To determine the level of knowledge of the medical staff of the surgery department of a level III-1 hospital and possible factors related to it. Materials and methods: A validated survey was applied in July 2022. The data were processed in STATA 16. Results: 99 participants responded, 73.7% were under 40 years of age, 82.8% men and 63.6% medical residents. 79.8% obtained a high knowledge rating. A significant association of older age with a high level of knowledge was found. Conclusions: Most of the participants had a high level of knowledge about COVID-19; however, intervening in certain areas that require further updating will help prevent the rate of infection in this population group.
