Abstract

Mature ovarian teratoma also called dermoid cyst is a benign tumour of germ cells found in the extragonadal
tissue with low frecquency and malign transformation less than 2%. Spontaneous rupture of the cyst is extremely rare (less than 1%). The cyst can break into the peritoneal cavity or rarely into a hollow viscus like the rectum as in this case. This the case of a woman who presented with abdominal pain and pus and hairs in her stools. A mature cystic theratoma with a rectal
fistula was diagnosed. She underwent tumorectomy and sigmoid loop colostomy. Pathology confirmed a mature cystic theratoma. Postoperattive recovery was uneventful and she was discharged after 5 days. A review of this unusual pathology with good prognosis is presented.
