Abstract

Appendicular mucocele are unfrequent appendicular tumors in which this organ is distended by mucoid secretion. There are four histological types; one of them is called mucinous cystoadenocarcinoma. This is considered a malignant tumor with a reported survival rate of 50% in 5 years. We report three clinical cases of appendicular mucocele with a variable clinical
presentation at the Good Hope Hospital in Lima, Peru. Most of the reported appendicular mucoceles have an acute presentation; in contrast, we present three chronic cases. The differential diagnosis for this kind of tumors are complex ovarian cysts. Mucoceles are related to peritoneal pseudomyxomas as these are due to rupture or perforation of the former.
